People spend a lifetime searching for happiness; looking for peace. They chase idle dreams, addictions, religions, even other people, hoping to fill the emptiness that plagues them. The irony is the only place they ever needed to search was within.

    Hi Tim,

That’s a great quote! Here’s another one you might like:

“Happiness is a butterfly, which when pursued, is always just beyond your grasp, but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you.” ~ Nathaniel Hawthorne

I agree that we spend too much of our time looking outside of ourselves for happiness even though we’re told time and again that the place to look is within.

Having said that, I think people can be active in being
happy. By adopting new habits into their daily lives, they can become happy without making any changes to their external circumstances.

My top two tips for letting go of the search and just being happy now are 1) meditate daily and 2) be grateful for what is good in your life. (There is always something to be grateful for, even in the tough times.

I just found your blog, but I’ll be coming back! I’m also a big fan of inspiring quotations, and happiness is my hobby horse too : )

    all the best,

    Hilda

  2. Hi Hilda,

Thanks for visiting. You’re absolutely right that even though happiness lies within we need to take an active role in building our happiness power.

I agree that gratitude is one of the most powerful forces available to us. I’ve found that the more we’re grateful the more things we find to be grateful for.

Please drop by and comment often.

    To your happiness!
