Do You Hear That?
It’s the sound of silence.
You say you can’t hear it?
Turn off the TV. Turn off the radio. Turn off the iPod. Turn off the dishwasher. Turn off everything that’s making noise.
Enjoy the silence.
Most of us spend so much time with noise going on around us that we don’t take time to enjoy the silence.
Spending some time in silence can be very beneficial. It helps give your brain some time to relax. It doesn’t have to process all the inputs from the outside stimulus.
Many times when I’m driving, I’ll turn off the radio or CD player. In traffic, you’ll still hear the sound of the engine and the traffic, but it becomes almost like white noise where you don’t hear it. It gives me time to think, or just let my mind relax.
When no one else is home, rather than watching TV or listening to music, I’ll enjoy the silent time reading or writing.
Give it a try today. Spend 10 minutes in silence. If you’re used to constantly hearing something, spending that 10 minutes in silence may seem difficult. But if you do this on a regular basis, you’ll find it easier to do and you’ll begin to enjoy the peace and quiet.
To your happiness

Sometimes, if it gets too quiet, I feel like something is missing. It’s funny, I often have the TV on and am not even paying attention to it. Next time that happens. I will turn it right off. It will save electricity too… my parents would be proud…lol
Hi Tim
I couldn’t agree more.
I’m often in need of silence. Especially if I’ve had too much stimulation – say work. I “can’t” have the radio on in the car. The TV as background noise can drive me dilly! In fact, we don’t have a TV.
Mm, maybe I’m a bit odd in that way
I think this is a good point!
